Pastors, Church planters, and Bible Study Leaders NEEDED

  • Have you ever considered planting a new church OR revitalizing an established church that has fallen into decline?

  • Have you ever considered starting a Bible study with the long-term goal that it become a self-supporting, local congregation?

  • Do you believe God may be calling you into pastoral ministry, but you aren't completely sure where to begin that journey?

Maybe we can help.

The National Mission Board is an organization that focuses on church health and multiplication, and we are actively seeking church planters, Bible study leaders, and pastors who feel called to help plant new churches and revitalize struggling churches.

We provide assessment, training, networking, coaching, and credentialing for qualified candidates.  In some contexts, we also provide honorariums, partial start-up funding, and partial salary to leaders with a proven track record.

If you're interested in learning more, send us a quick message.  At present, we are seeking quite a few men to begin Bible studies with the long-term goal of establishing self-supporting, local congregations. Maybe we would be a good fit to work together!

Application Process to Serve as a Church Planter or Church Revitalizer with the National Mission Board

If you're interested in serving with us to plant new churches, or replant/revitalize existing churches, please follow the steps below.  If you have any questions along the way, please don't hesitate to reach out to our Director, John Stange.  He will be glad to assist you.  If you'd like to learn more about us before going through this application process, you can reach us through the Contact page.

Note: Pastors who are already ordained through the PMCUSA will not be required to complete Step 3 or Step 4 since those steps have already been fulfilled through your previous applications and credentialing. Please begin with Step 1 and we will confirm when you’re ready to complete Step 2.

Step 1.

Please take a moment to tell us more about yourself by sending us your answers to our “Prospective Church Planter Questionnaire”. We request that your answers be typed and forwarded as an attachment (in .doc or .pdf format) to NationalMissionBoard@gmail.com. Once you complete this step, your information will be reviewed by the NMB and we will let you know if you're ready to proceed to Step 2. (Do not proceed to Step 2 until the NMB gives you affirmation that it’s time to do so.)

Step 2.

Please forward a copy of your Lifeway Church Planter Assessment, to NationalMissionBoard@gmail.com. The assessment can be accessed at http://churchplanter.lifeway.com. Please allow 2 to 3 hours to complete this assessment. Once you complete this assessment, it will be reviewed by the NMB and we will let you know if you're ready to proceed to Step 3. (The cost of this assessment is about $90 and is your responsibility, but will be fully reimbursed if you become an approved planter with the National Mission Board).

Please also forward a copy of your Personality Test (https://www.16personalities.com) and your Spiritual Gifts Test (http://giftstest.com) as well.  These assessments are available for free online.

Step 3.

Please supply 5 letters of reference that testify to your character, ministry aptitude, and professional competency. Please also supply a copy of your background check if you have one, as well as a recent copy of your credit report. Once you complete this step, your information will be reviewed by the NMB and we will let you know if you're ready to proceed to Step 4.

Step 4.

Please complete the School of Theology application. It can be downloaded here. Once it is complete, please send it to NationalMissionBoard@gmail.com. Once you complete this step, your information will be reviewed by the NMB and we will let you know if you're ready to proceed to Step 5.

Step 5.

Phone/Skype/Facetime interview. NMB Director, John Stange, will reach out to you to schedule an interview. The interview may also include several other board members as part of the discussion. Once you complete this step, your information will be reviewed by the NMB and we will let you know if you're ready to proceed to Step 6.

Step 6.

Planting strategy sessions / ongoing training. At this point, we will begin hammering out a planting/re-planting/revitalization strategy. We will also be providing you with various forms of training (books, mentoring, training events, etc.) As we work through this, we will do our best to document all aspects of this process and put all details of our mutual expectations in writing as a check list / action plan.

Thank you for your interest in being part of the ministry the National Mission Board has been commissioned to lead. We look forward to exploring the possibility of serving together and we're grateful for your cooperation.

Sincerely,

John Stange
NMB Director
